Boyle Abbey was a Cistercian monastery set up in the 12th Century by monks from Mellifont Abbey. It was one of the most powerful of the early Cistercian foundations in Ireland. The 16th Century gatehouse has been restored to its natural glory and turned into an interpretive centre where you can learn more about the history of the Abbey.
