St. Mel’s Cathedral is the church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise in the town of Longford. It has been known as the “flagship cathedral” of the Irish Midlands region. The Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Mel who came to Ireland with Saint Patrick.

Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre is an important relic of prehistory and Iron age road built in 128 BC, known as Danes Road. It is the largest of its kind to have been discovered in Europe. The track was built from heavy plants of oak. aIt is on permanent display in a hall designed to preserve it.
