The 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment New York – Seeks support for the Annul Fighting Soldiers Ball.
The 69th Infantry Regiment, or the “Fighting 69th” both historically and presently embodies the melding of Irish-American Culture, they guard and preserve the precious Irish American cultural traditions that have developed through their long and distinguished history.
Their presence forever enduring and their service to their county and each other remain steadfast. The Fighting 69th embodies all that is wonderful about the preservation of heritage, the limitless abilities of immigrants in the past and present.
They have been a part of our shared history since their inception. Their service to each other, god and country, has been so significant and true that this illustrious Regiment has its achievements forever inscribed in our shared historical annals.
Founded by Irish immigrants, and eventually formed into the Irish Brigade by Brigadier General Thomas Francis Meagher from Waterford, The Fighting 69th has walked through the hell fires of war. Taking part in some of histories bloodiest battles.
Their history is intertwined with stories of greatness but also stories of loss and human tragedy.
From the battlefields of The American Civil War, The harsh cold battlefields of Europe, the islands of the Pacific Theatre of World war II, the horrors of a first responder on 9/11, the deserts of Iraq and the desolate mountains of Afghanistan, the Fighting 69th has served the cause of human freedom without a thought to their own safety or lives
Their bond to each other, the common cause of good has forever ingratiated this historic unit in our hearts. The Fighting 69th has forever preserved the long and distinguished connection between Ireland and the United States.
Constantly honouring the ideals of loyalty, honour and freedom. On the tragic day that will forever live in our minds, the 11th of September 2001. The Fighting 69th mobilized without thought to themselves.
They put themselves forward to help the people of New York City, the first military unit to help at The World Trade Centre. Those photographs of young soldiers giving hope in a time of despair, guarding airports, power plants and the world famous West Point.
In the aftermath, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan with the conviction to always do what is right to help those who cannot help themselves.
The Fighting 69th has a commitment to a constant state of redness, taking part in constant training exercises both at home and overseas.
In 2016 Lieutenant Colonel Don Makay, Commander of the Fighting 69th had a vision to honour the soldiers and the families of the Fighting 69th annually.
He was inspired to establish an event that honours the commitments and sacrifice of the soldiers and families of the fighting 69th. The event is a magnificent Military Ball, which is now in its 3rd year.
This event is held to honour soldiers and their families. The honour that being part of a military unit at times comes with great personal sacrifice.
The constant training, sudden departures and financial strains are all a part of military life and that is accepted by those who serve without question.
The families who give their constant support, sometimes in the face of great adversity, long absences and periods of worry. This wonderful event honours all of these wonderful people and acknowledges the difficulties that they face in their lives.
This wonderful event will take place this year on the 8th of December at the illustrious Military Academy of West Point. The Regiment Trust this year is suffering financial restraints due to the temporary closure of The Armoury and The Garryowen Club where The Fighting 69th would normally hold all official fundraisers.
Due to these financial constringent The Regimental Trust is in need of donations to carry out the much-needed work of supporting and honouring soldiers and their families.
